About Eating
2025 -
The research is an exploration of eating practices. I draw on research into historical, bizarrely extravagant forms of luxury associated with food (for example, Roman feasts in which participants indulged in hedonistic rituals and excesses of food and drink), as well as on the exploration of contemporary presentations of gastronomy, so-called fine dining.
I am interested in broader social structures and patterns, and my work drives from questioning the specificity of the time in which we live. I look for connections related to the social, class-based, and cultural habits of privileged layers of society. I respond to tensions and current issues through humor, absurdity, and the grotesque, which I currently see as the most effective modes of communication for myself.
I am interested in how to break the illusion of a “civilized” society. How to intervene in rational thinking and normative perceptions of the world. How to challenge conventional ideas of behavior, morality, and social rules through absurd, destructive, and provocative scenes. Can food and eating, as a starting point, be a powerful political act?

In my research, I draw on a wide range of literature, podcasts, and films. I find inspiration in the Czechoslovak cult film Daisies (Sedmikrásky), The Holy Mountain (A. Jodorowsky), Rućak (A. Hušman), Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (K. Anger), La Grande Bouffe (L. Ferreri), as well as in Ulrike Ottinger and her scenes of dining across several films, among others. I travel and research, creating reinterpretations and responses to these references through my own artistic language.
The research elements emerge without prior determination. I search for objects at flea markets, which I then use in installations and experimental filming setups. I create costumes, ceramic tableware, and utensils. I write a script for ten characters and their interactions at the table. The filming takes place both in the studio and outdoors with friends who are not professional actors.
